Using Autoresponders for a Membership Program

Autoresponders are best known as an automated method of keeping in touch with your marketing list. But did you know that autoresponders can be used for membership programs? They are a great way to deliver your online products, including courses, that can create a "set it and forget it" income stream for you.

People join membership sites to receive education or information for an open-ended period of time. That length of time averages about three months for most membership sites. Instead of spending the time and money to build a membership site, why not set up an autoresponder series that can deliver information to your members over the course of one, two, three or more months?

If you already have information or a product that is easily broken up into chapters or lessons, you can use an autoresponder to deliver the lessons at set intervals. You can either send each lesson or installment as an attachment or put a link in your email to that lesson. You can deliver a lesson a day or one a week - however you want to set it up.

What if you don't have a product? Many people will create an interview a week or video a week - usually between thirty minutes and an hour - and send their members a link to download the files. Another way to do a membership program is to hold a webinar every week, month or whatever you decide. Members sign in for the webinar and they can also have access to the replay. Just use your autoresponder to send them the link to the replay.

As an example, my information product course was originally delivered by autoresponder. I had set up a series of emails that were sent out weekly and delivered a lesson each week in the form of a Camtasia video and a pdf lesson accompaniment. I also set in bonuses to be delivered at monthly intervals.

It was (and still is) basically a "set it and forget it" system. The product was delivered automatically. I didn't have to worry about scheduling time each week to teach. In addition, my students could watch the videos and do the lesson at a time that was good for them. If they were on vacation one week, the lesson was waiting for them when they were ready. They could also download all the information so they could use it to build future projects.

You don't have to have a big fancy membership site that you spent $20,000 and three years to build. The way the information is delivered is not nearly as important as the quality of the content. Keep giving your members valuable information they can use, and they'll stay with you.

Remember: It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be done.
